Academic Planning Unit (Quality Assurance Section)

The Academic Planning Unit was established in 1986 in the University of Maiduguri just like other Nigerian universities in response to the need to coordinate and streamline academic policy matters and or academic activities of the University as a result of the sudden and sometimes uncoordinated growth, new developments and or proliferation of programmes as well as to address the problems of data collection, management and use. Its origin nationwide was informed by the need to put in place some academic and administrative structures that would guide the orderly academic development of the University in the performance of its statutory functions of teaching, research and development as well as public service

The Academic Planning Unit is charged with the performance of certain clearly defined duties to promote a uniform academic direction and purpose to be put in place and serve as a beacon for academic development in the University. An important function of the Academic Planning is to generate, collate, store, retrieve and disseminate adequate, accurate and timely data to the Management and stake holders for policy formulation.

The vision of the unit is to create excellence in teaching, learning and research with clear performance and quality service delivery.

The mission is to ensure quality standard and excellence in academic service delivery.

Staff Strength and Development
A coordinator oversees the activities of the Unit. The Unit has a total number of five (5) members of staff including the coordinator

Mandate of Unit:
The mandate of the unit is has follows:

  1. assisting in coordinating academic activities of the University, making sure that they are carried out with best practices as established by law,
  2. making sure that lectures and other academic activities as established by law are appropriately delivered or executed as and when due,
  3. monitoring absenteeism from classes and other important functions that are geared towards the sustainability of academic standard or excellence,
  4. detecting areas of problems that militate against proper functioning of material and human resources that are geared towards better service delivery,
  5. reporting appropriately to the Vice Chancellor constraints that may be hindering the activities of the Unit.
