About Faculty of Management Sciences

Faculty of Management Sciences was split from the defunct Faculty of Social and Management Sciences in 2004. The Faculty of Social and Management Sciences is one of the oldest Faculties in the University which started as Faculty of Social Sciences and Law on 28th October, 1976.

The Faculty of Management Sciences during its inception in 2004 comprises of four Departments; Accountancy; Business Management, Economics and Public Administration. However, during the 2009/2010 academic session, the Department of Economics was moved to Faculty of Social Sciences in line with the National Universities Commission Accreditation Report.

Aims and Objectives

The objectives of the Faculty of Management Sciences are guided by the objectives of the University as laid down in Section 1 (13) of the Act establishing the University. The broad objectives are:

  • To encourage the advancement of learning and to hold out to all persons without distinction of race, creed, sex or political conviction the opportunity of acquiring a higher and liberal education;
  • To provide course of instruction and other facilities for the pursuit of learning in all its branches, and to make those facilities available on proper terms to such persons as are equipped to benefit from them;
  • To encourage and promote scholarship and conduct research in all fields of learning and human Endeavour;
  • To relate its activities to the social and economic needs of the people of Nigeria and
  • To undertake any other activities appropriate for a University of the highest standard.

Philosophy

The Faculty of Law has as its philosophy the adoption of inter-disciplinary approach in the training of students in the legal profession to meet the challenge of modern day.
