The Vice-Chancellor University of Maiduguri, Professor Aliyu Shugaba, has called on Nigerians to appreciate the country’s health facilities and take full advantage of them for their medical treatment. He made the call when he hosted a delegation from the Nigerian Society of Neurological Science (NSNS), an affiliate of the World Federation of Neurology, in his office on Thursday 23rd January 2020.

Professor Shugaba pointed out that the country has some of the best medical brains who are making professional impact both within and outside the shores of Nigeria, adding that with the ongoing medical reforms in the country, Nigerians should take full advantage of the development to treat their illness through the professional medical personnel and facilities in the country.

The Vice Chancellor then commended the Society for choosing Maiduguri as the venue for the upcoming 52nd Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference of the society scheduled to hold between 22nd and 27th of March 2020. He said that it will serve as an avenue to highlight the return of peace in the state after a decade of insurgency, and at the same time will serve as an inspirational crusade to create awareness on critical health conditions such as epilepsy and spinal cord injury, among others. Earlier, the Chairman Local Organizing Committee of the conference, Professor Yakubu Nyandaiti, said the upcoming Conference is the first of its kind to be hosted in the northeastern part of Nigeria, adding that it will have international speakers from Europe and Asia. The aim of the conference, he said, is to create awareness in complex neurological surgery, spinal cord injury and post trauma related management. Professor Nyandaiti used the visit to thank the University Management for the purchase of an endoscopy machine for the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
