Prof. Fatima Lasisi Ibrahim Professor of Library and Information Science, University of Maiduguri. Professor Fatima Lasisi Ibrahim is a respected scholar and academic leader in the field of Library and Information Science at the University of Maiduguri. With a distinguished career spanning more than three decades, she currently serves as Professor of Library and Information Science in the Department of Library and Information Science, University of Maiduguri.
Born on July 7, 1960, in Funtua, Katsina State, Nigeria, Professor Ibrahim’s educational journey is rooted in dedication and academic excellence. She earned her Diploma in Library Science (1985) and Bachelor of Library Science (BLS) (1988) from the University of Maiduguri, followed by a Master of Library Science (MLS) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1992. Her academic credentials culminated with a Ph.D. in Educational Management from Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola in 2014.
Her professional trajectory began as a classroom teacher and later as a Library Assistant at the Ramat Library, University of Maiduguri, before rising through the academic ranks from Graduate Assistant in 1989 to full Professor in 2022. Throughout her career, she has held several vital roles, including Head of Department (2016–2021), Postgraduate Programme Coordinator (2014–2016), and Faculty Representative in various university committees. Professor Ibrahim is deeply engaged in both academic and professional service. She has served on numerous committees, such as the University Tenant Committee, Faculty Welfare Committee, Editorial Boards, and several Ad-hoc and development committees.
She has also held a long-term position as Treasurer of the Nigerian Library Association, Borno State Chapter (2003–present), and contributed to academic publishing as a member of editorial teams for prominent journals. Her scholarly work focuses on library service delivery, digital literacy, ICT applications in libraries, information resource utilization, and the evolving role of academic libraries in Nigeria. She has authored and co-authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications in reputable national and international journals. Her recent works explore topics such as ICT competencies of librarians, AI awareness in information management, digital library usage, and information needs of specific user groups including students and medical practitioners.
