Centre for Instructional Technology
The Centre keeps the tools of teaching working: the lecture theatres and seminar rooms, the projectors, screens and sound systems in them, and the recording facilities used to capture lectures for students who cannot be in the room.
What the Centre does
The Centre for Instructional Technology supports teaching across the whole University, both in the lecture theatres and in the classrooms that are not on the timetable system.
- Keeps the projectors, screens, public address and sound systems in teaching rooms working, and prepares halls for examinations and lectures.
- Helps academic staff prepare slides, lecture notes and other teaching material in the formats students can use.
- Records lectures where a room allows it, so that students who miss a session, or who revise from outside the lecture room, have the material.
- Trains staff and students in the use of teaching technology, and advises departments on what to buy and how to use it.
- Runs the facilities of the teaching rooms, including the lighting, the seating and the fixed installations.
Working with the Centre
Requests from departments - equipment to be repaired, a hall to be prepared, a lecture to be recorded - are made to the office of the Centre and are handled in the order they are received. Teaching scheduled outside the normal timetable should be arranged in advance, so that a room and an operator are both available.
