The Governing Council
The Governing Council is the body that holds the University to its founding purpose. It approves policy, the budget and major appointments, and it is chaired by the Pro-Chancellor.
The full list of Council members is being published. The officers of the Council are shown below in the meantime — please contact the Registrar’s office for the current membership.
What the Council does
The Council considers the University’s budget and annual report, approves the appointment of principal officers, and gives the Vice-Chancellor and the administrative staff the authority they need to run the University between meetings. Its decisions are recorded in the minutes kept by the Registrar, who is also Secretary to the Council.
Membership is drawn from the University community and from the stakeholders the National Universities Commission requires to be represented, so that the people who teach and study here, and the state and nation around them, all have a voice in the University's direction.
