You are welcome to the Faculty of Clinical Sciences; a faculty engaged with practical application of clinical sciences. It is the faculty responsible for the final aspect of the training and molding of medical students, utilizing the knowledge acquired from basic medical Sciences and basic clinical sciences into clinical application. The faculty exposes students to both theoretical clinical sciences and practical application of these theories in patient care. It offers students the rare opportunity of interacting with live patient in real time, thus building the required confidence in patient evaluation. This is done through several structured clinical postings in the various departments and disciplines in medicine over a period of thirty-two to thirty-six months.
Faculty overview
The Faculty of Clinical Sciences was established in 2018 along with other faculties of the College of Medical Sciences. It is domicile in the College of Medical Sciences situated within the premises of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital. The faculty is composed of eleven departments namely; Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, and Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Community Medicine. Others are ENT Surgery (Otorhinolaryngology), Radiology, Mental Health (Psychiatry), Anaesthesia, Orthopaedics and Trauma, Ophthalmology.
The faculty offers undergraduate programme for Medical students and Dental Surgery students in their clinical phase of training. This training includes several clinical postings structured base on level and department and include: Junior Medicine and Surgery Posting as well as junior and Intermediate Paediatrics and Obstetrics/Gynaecology Posting for 400 level medical students. Intermediate Medicine and Surgery Posting as well Specialty posting for 500 level. The 600 level undertake senior Paediatric and Obstetrics/Gynaecology posting and finally Senior Medicine and Surgery Posting. Community Medicine is offered from level 1 to level 6 of the MBBS programme. Special Community Medicine posting includes Urban posting in 500 level and Rural Posting in 600 level.
The Faculty operates a sessional calendar with students having a maximum of two weeks break annually. This is in addition to official public holidays. Examinations are conducted during and at the end of each clinical posting and serve as continuous assessment. Final examinations are conducted at the end of the senior Paediatrics and Obstetrics/Gynaecology postings as well as at the end of the Senior Medicine and Surgery Postings. The minimum pass mark is 50% and student must pass the clinical aspect of the examination in addition to obtaining an overall minimum score of 50%. Students who failed the clinical examination or obtained overall score of less than 50% will have resit examination within 6 weeks to three months of the main examinations.
The Faculty also offers postgraduate programmes in MSc. reproductive Health, while MSc. Paediatrics is at the final stage of being lunched.

Philosophy
The faculty is a clinical oriented faculty rooted in sound theoretical and practical clinical sciences with the aim of producing medical graduates who can undertake core clinical services nationally and internationally. Graduates should be able to comprehend health care challenges in our environment and proffer solution through clinical services, appropriate referral and advocacy.
Mission
To train high quality personnel in numbers which will make a significant difference to skill and expertise available for solution of health problems of the country and to inculcate the highest standards of ethical and moral values in the trainees, so that they will practice their community, and thus contribute to the improvement of health of the people of Nigeria.
