Our academic programmes are rigorous and designed to produce highly competent medical graduates, scientists, and specialists. We are actively involved in the training of:

Medical Students (MBBS):We equip future physicians with a robust understanding of microbiology, immunology, and parasitology, which is essential for accurate diagnosis and effective treatment of infectious diseases prevalent in our environment.

Medical Laboratory Science Students:We provide in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge, fostering skilled laboratory professionals who are the backbone of any healthcare system.

Postgraduate Residents (Fellowship and Masters): We run vibrant postgraduate programmes in Medical Microbiology and Parasitology, in collaboration with the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH). Our residents are trained to become specialist medical microbiologists, capable of managing laboratories, consulting on complex infectious disease cases, and leading research initiatives.

Infectious Disease Epidemiology: Investigating the prevalence and distribution of diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis, HIV, and emerging viral infections.

Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR): A key priority for us is the surveillance and study of AMR patterns, working to understand and combat this growing global threat. Our affiliation with UMTH provides us with a rich clinical setting to study resistance in real-time.

Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs): We conduct significant research on diseases like leishmaniasis, schistosomiasis, and onchocerciasis, which are endemic to our region.

Molecular Diagnostics: We are increasingly incorporating molecular techniques to improve the speed and accuracy of pathogen detection and characterisation.
